At Apple, I worked on Back Tap — a feature that enables shortcuts by tapping on the back of the iPhone. It debuted in iOS 14, and the world seems to like it:
Do more with a double-tap or a triple-tap on the back of your iPhone.

Set up Back Tap to help you perform more actions one-handed. Here’s how. pic.twitter.com/9yEXld1XCo
So, the Back Tap setting is maybe the coolest little thing in iOS 14 so far.

It’s absolutely nuts how well Back Tap works, and how sensitive it is, I can barely touch the back of my phone twice and it registers it, and I’ve somehow only had like one false registration.

iOS 14 has a new Back Tap feature in Accessibility and it's wild. You can perform quick actions by double- or triple-tapping the *back of your iPhone*. Literally quick taps on the back; works with a case on.

Under Touch Control in Accessibility, you can set actions for ‘back tap’. Two exist: double and triple tap. You can use them to run shortcuts.
